ESDM offers a holistic approach to early intervention, supporting each child’s development through meaningful, play-based learning tailored to their individual strengths and needs.
The early years of a child’s development are pretty special, its a time when the brain is uniquely wired to learn through play, relationships, and rich social interaction.
At this critical stage, we specialise in delivering the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), an evidence-based therapy designed specifically for children aged 6 and under with autism or developmental delays.

Early Start Denver Model FAQs
What is ESDM?
ESDM combines the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with developmental and relationship-based approaches, offering a play-based and child-led framework that’s engaging, respectful, and tailored to early learners.
Developed by researchers Dr. Sally Rogers and Dr. Geraldine Dawson, ESDM is widely recognised as one of the most effective early interventions for autism and children with developmental delays.
What’s the difference between ESDM and ABA therapy?
ESDM is based on the science of ABA but delivered through play and natural interactions. It’s more child-led and relationship-focused compared to structured ABA sessions. You can read more in our guide: “Understanding the difference between ABA and ESDM”
Does ESDM work for children over 6 years?
ESDM is specifically designed for children aged 1 to 6, as it aligns with early developmental stages.
For children over 6, we may recommend other evidence-based approaches that suit their age and learning style, and we’re happy to guide you through those options.
Is ESDM covered by the NDIS?
Yes, ESDM therapy can be funded under the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) supports. We can help guide you through the process.
How long are ESDM therapy sessions?
Sessions typically run between 1 to 3 hours, depending on your child’s goals and needs. We’ll tailor the program to suit your family’s schedule.
How much ESDM support does my child need?
Every child is different. Some children benefit from a few sessions a week, while others may need more intensive support. We’ll work with you to develop an ESDM plan tailored to your child’s strengths, needs, and your family’s routine.
Do parents need to be involved in ESDM therapy?
Absolutely. ESDM places a strong emphasis on family involvement. We provide coaching and support so you can continue your child’s learning at home.
